Last Thursday, police personnel shot dead three Madheshees in Rangeli of Morang district. The raw occurred when the CPN (UML) affiliated Youth Association Nepal decided to retaliate the ongoing Madheshee agitation in the name of so-called orientation programme to be addressed by Party President Prime Minister KP Oli. Though Mr. Oli didn’t dare to attend the programme, his General Secretary Ishwar Pokhrel gathered courage to do this. It was just a stunt against Madheshee agitation, to verify whether Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari belong to Madhesh. The tragic mishap proved that the territory is part of Madhesh and that the Khas-Gorkhali imperialists cannot play there in the name of ethnic, religious or other diversity within the nation of Madhesh. Moreover, it proves that the Khas-Gorkha Empire has been continuing apartheid and genocide against Madheshees encroaching their homeland even in the name of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.
Dropati Chaudhary, Chibu Majhi and Mahadev Rishidev are all indigenous Madheshee inhabitants who met martyrdom in police firing directed by genetically crooked Shakti-Oli administration. On Thursday only, KP Oli vandalized the ongoing talks between agitating Madheshi leaders and the three state-runner parties; the CPN (UML), UCPN (Maoist) and Nepali Congress. The news disseminated at different media also quote Mr. Oli saying that he is facing pressure of separating Nepal. Mr. KP Oli fabricates that the first phase of such separation starts from separating Madhesh from hills as a single province and the second phase will start for complete separation. Stating this, he further reiterates that he will never accept either a single or two provinces in Madhesh that separate it from hills. This is not his personal assumption but suspicion of his whole race of Khas-Gorkha elites that has consolidated the imperialist-colonialist mindset against Madhesh. So, the set up of the so-called Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal remains the same as continuity of the expanded Gorkha Empire of Conqueror Prithvi Narayan Shah and his successors.
This is the root-cause of the national identity crisis with Madheshees in Nepal. Their Madhesh has been encroached in the name of zamindari, royal estate and Khas-Gorkhali resettlement in Madhesh following completion of the East-West Mahendra Highway. This is the assimilatory approach of the feudal imperialism that has launched the rule of apartheid and genocide against Madheshee populace.
Much more have been made public in this concern. The agitation has also been staged time and again. These days too, the Madhesh Movement is going on. The Madhesh movement constitutionalized federalism in Nepal in 2007 and established national identity-based provinces including whole Madhesh as a single province with right to national self-determination in 2008. But the so-called ‘Madheshee leaders’ bargained it with their will to be part of ruling elites. These days too, at one side more than fifty Madheshees have been shot dead by the Khas-Gorkhali security personnel but the so-called Madheshee leaders are still sticking to the ruling chairs in Kathmandu in the name of dialogue that never proves fruitful in favour of Madhesh. Conversely, absurd Oli has made ridiculous remarks saying if accepted, the Madheshees will demand for part of the moon too.
Apartheid in the African nations started in the name of Christianity. The land was in the hands of Blacks and the Holy Bible in the hand of the Whites. The Holy Bible was distributed among Blacks in temptation of Heaven and Paradise. They were urged to shut their eyes in the prayer of the so-called Almighty. They did so. But when they reopened their eyes, the Holy Bible was in their hands and the land was in the hands of the White nomads. This was the commencement of Apartheid in South Africa. Apartheid in Madhesh has the similar story. Madheshees were the only builders of the Nepal valley, the ruling elite historians have noted. In the medieval period too, the Sen Rulers were ruling in Madhesh as well as in the hills and mountains. Prithvi Narayan offered marital tie with the Makwanpur ruler for mutual strengthening of their kingdoms. The Sen Makwanpur ruler accepted it. Because he was Madheshee, the Makwanpur king expected bowing at knees by Prithvi Narayan. But being a Khas-Gorkhali Prithvi was expecting the same on behalf of his father-in-law. Likewise, following Madheshee practice the bride was not seen off following the wedding rituals whereas Prithvi forced to do so. In this way the simple raw between the two cultures culminated into enmity and Prithvi conquered Makwanpur. Following annexation, he declared an outcaste against many of the loser military personnel and the general populace too. In addition to this, Prithvi faced three defeats in the Nepal valley with the Madheshee military personnel of Jay Prakas Malla. So, when he conquered it, he cut noses and ears of a lot of losers. Conclusively, Prithvi made a decree not to believe on Madheshees, his so-called Divyopadesh (Extraordinary Preachings) states so. This was the initial stage of apartheid against Madheshees in the Gorkha Empire.
The dreams of liberation were spread by all sorts of popular movements commencing from 1950 by the Nepali Congress. An armed struggle started and got negotiated in the mediation of Delhi administration of Nehru. But Madheshees were only cheated in the post-struggle period. Moreover, the threat of Malaria was preventing the Khas-Gorkhalis from the resettlements in Madhesh. King Mahendra made a tremendous contribution in collaboration with WHO to eradicate it. Following this, he played a magic of development by construction of the East-West Highway clearing the thick forest, which abandoned the older one, Hulaki Higway passing through Madhesh. His second step was the constitution of Resettlement Company for Khas-Gorkhali resettlement in Madhesh beside the newly Highway. These were his assimilatory approach of apartheid in Madhesh. But the Nepali Congress and different factions of the Communist Party of Nepal continued tempting all nationals to launch rebellion against feudalism. In this regard, the Joint Popular Movement in 1990, the ten year Peoples’ War commencing from 1995 by the then CPN (Maoist) and the Second Popular Movement in 2006 uprooted monarchy.
During the ten year Peoples’ War period, the Maoists had formulated bi-fold struggle against feudalism; class-struggle against feudalism and a struggle of national liberation against the Khas-Gorkhali feudal imperialism. A number of national liberation fronts including Madheshee National Liberation Front were constituted. Peoples’ Governments were also declared. On the contrary, following abolition of monarchy and declaring Nepal a Federal Democratic Republic, right to national self-determination was misinterpreted in the name of consolidation of regressive integration and sovereignty, so, national identity-based federalism was denied outright. This is the continuity of Feudal Gorkha Empire in the Republic. So, it is the Neo-Gorkha Empire with brand of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. In this way the Khas-Gorkhali rulers only distributed banners of development, nationalism, democracy and federalism and within blinks of our eyes to think of our liberation and enrichment, those banners are still at our hands and our motherland is in the hands of theirs. So, we are living in a new form of apartheid and genocide is going on against Madheshees all the time when they raise their heads and come to the streets for their national liberation.
Earlier, I’ve already shed light on the theoretical background of Madhesh as a nation. So, by this means or that, Madhesh will restore its national set up either as a single province of whole Madhesh with right to national self-determination or as an independent state of Madhesh in near future.
